Hello Kiara, I support your views on providing teachers with training on teaching
children with ADHD. If possible, the training should be held twice every year. This is because
scientific discoveries continue to be made. For instance, the DSM-5 has proposed changes to the
criteria used to diagnose children with ADHD (Sibley et al., 2013). If teachers are continuously
updated on such discoveries, they are updated, and this is reflected in their day-to-day practice.
Also, they avoid the possibility of false-negative ADHD diagnoses. Teachers are able to
differentiate disruptive behavior among students that are associated with their developmental
stages from those that are associated with ADHD. Also, since teachers are involved in providing
behavior therapy, I think that they need continuous training so that they can be effective in
assisting children with ADHD.

Hello Marie, the preparation of an individualized education plan (IEP) is an essential and
critical step towards providing instruction to a child who suffers from ADD/ADHD. It enables a
child to stay in a regular classroom and still have their needs adequately met (Bhandari, 2019).
When teachers are adequately trained, they are able to make decisions that have the student’s
interests. for example, depending on the teacher’s assessment, a student may either be placed in a

regular classroom or in a special class. The teacher assesses the child’s needs and then decides
the learning environment where the needs will be best met. Also, a teacher may decide to take a
child to a special class where their specific needs, such as speech, occupational, or therapy, may
be met. Such decisions can only be made if the teacher is well trained on how to handle such
children.
