Journal: Transformational leadership

The transformational leadership theory reflects my style of leadership. I am a leader who
attends to the needs and motives of those that I lead. I aim at motivating them and raising their
levels of morality. I inspire my followers by displaying optimism. As a role model, I provide
intellectual stimulation and encourage followers to be creative and own their space as they
deliver services. I am committed to coaching and mentoring my followers or the team that I lead.
Errors provide learning opportunities. I value innovation and followers are provided with many
opportunities to offer their input in promoting the delivery of care.
I have demonstrated transformational leadership skills on several occasion. On a typical
day, I usually provide patient and family education, assist bedside nurses in making new

admissions and discharges, and help them with a detailed physical assessment and medication
administrations where necessary. I also observe as they perform their nursing tasks. However, I
usually allow them to make the discharges and admissions once in a while without my
assistance. I believe that once I have done discharges and admissions with a bedside nurse for
consecutive sessions, they too should be able to carry out the tests without my assistance. I also
allow the bedside nurses to administer medications on their own as they carry detailed physical
assessment on the patients. By so doing, I provide intellectual stimulation. I provide
opportunities for bedside nurses to gain independence and acquire the courage to carry out these
tasks independently. As a result, I have observed a group of motivated bedside nurses who are
motivated and creative in utilizing their working spaces to foster their growth.
