Target population/ Cultural considerations

Rockford, Illinois is not a largely diverse city. It comprises of 67.40 %, 21.98 % Black or
African American, people from two or more races make up to 3.92%, Asians make up to 3.62%
while other races and Native Americans make up 3.05 % and 0.38% respectively (World
Population Review, 2020). Based on these statistics, our target population will be largely white
and African American. We will be targeting both men and women of all age groups. Teenagers
might also visit our organization, although these may not make up a big percentage as not many
of them may be struggling with battered pasts. Our target is anyone who has been through a
battered past.
The staff that will be contracted to work within the organization will require specialized
training to serve this population. Dealing with battered people will require additional skills and
knowledge. Every day, the staff will be interacting with people who have been through difficult
situations in the past that have left them broken. For the staff to be able to deal with such cases,
additional and specialized training will be necessary. Training will be facilitated by the
organization, and the staff will receive certification upon successful completion of training.
He primary demographic will be primarily white and African American. However, there
may be clients who will come in from other cultures not included in the demographic
composition of Rockford. We will have multicultural awareness programs for our staff. They
will be trained on how to be multi-culturally aware. They will be imparted with knowledge and
skills on how to handle different groups of people from diverse backgrounds. Also, employees
will comprise of people from different cultures, and this will make it easy to create a staff that is
multi-culturally aware.
