Part 1A: Workshop Details
Title “Role of the Teacher in the 21 st Century.”
The workshop aims at sensitizing new teachers on the changing roles in
the profession. The modern-day teacher has a new role to play in the
integration of technology in the classroom, and this will be covered
during the workshop.
Explanation Teachers will engage in an in-depth discussion on how they think that
technology will impact on their role in the classrooms. The discussion
will be moderated by experienced teachers, some of whom have been
teaching before technology was incorporated into the classrooms, and
after its incorporation. Attendants will also be provided with materials
and resources; these will mostly be online materials. They will take the
materials with them and will read them after the conference. After the
engagement session, there will be two speakers. They will deliver
speeches that will mostly shed light on the changing roles of a teacher,
what to do, and how to adapt as the roles will continue evolving.
Objective/Purpose The objective of the conference is for new teachers who will be joining
the teaching profession to get oriented. The attendants will learn a lot
from experienced teachers, and they will also learn from each other
through open-discussions. Teachers will get tips on how to navigate the
teaching profession, as well as how to tap onto new opportunities into

the market by advancing their education in fields that will make them
more marketable in the job market. Mainly, teachers will be guided as
they take their first steps into their career journeys.
Target Audience BAE Bachelor of Arts Education
The conference targets Ashford University education graduates in 2020.
Theory Role theory is concerned with patterns of behavior that are prevalent to
groups of people as well as the underlying affective and cognitive
phenomena (Sjølie, 2014). One of the most realistic ways to view
teaching is by looking at a teacher’s professional conduct as the center
focus of their impact in the classroom. Teachers are a group of social
actors whose feelings and thoughts are manifested in their behavior
when teaching. The act of teaching is a complex behavior to study
because of the many factors that influence it; time is one of these
factors. Teachers’ roles keep changing and evolving with time.
The incorporation of technology in the modern classroom has changed
the role of the teacher significantly. Also, the society within which a
teacher operates has also changed. Students have access to the internet
and different technological gadgets. Thus, the type of students that the
teacher is interacting with is different. The subject matter content has
also changed. In real sense, even the individuality of the teacher can be
influenced by all these changes. Thus, through the conference, the role
theory will be explored. Teachers will be oriented on their changing
roles and their place in the 21 st -century classroom.

Technology provides a changing teaching and learning
environment as it continues to evolve. This makes it necessary
to make teachers aware of how they will be using technology
inside and outside of the classroom. They will use technology
o create a learning environment that is learner-centred. In
solving roadblock #1, this standard will be used to remind
teachers that technology extends their teaching role even
outside the classroom. For instance, they might have to use
asynchronous tools, such as conferencing systems and e-mails
to communicate with learners in contexts outside the
classroom environment. Thus, the advantages of multimedia
technology are that teachers will have unlimited access to the
teacher and learning resources (Pun, 2013). Also, it is
important for the teacher to understand how to use technology

and balance between work and personal life. The intrusion of
technology into the teacher’s private lives can make it hard
for teachers to love a balanced life because students are able
to contact the teacher anytime. As such, it is important for a
teacher to establish working rules on contact hours and how
students should contact them. Such tips will be given during
the conference, and the speaker will be guided by the above
professional standard.

Standard 10: leadership and management (NAEYC Program
Standards, 2020).
The standard emphasizes on effective management and
demonstration of leadership qualities. The speakers will
demonstrate time management skills because these are
important for every teacher. Teachers prepare lesson plans
which can only be effectively implemented if they manage
their time properly. This skill will be emphasized during the
conference, and the facilitator will demonstrate to the teachers
the best ways through which they can manage time in their
classrooms.
Part 3: Environment and Materials
Environment The ideal environment for this conference will be a

conference hall. A space that can accommodate the expected
number of participants. Also, the hall should be in a quiet
place to avoid distractions from outside noises. Preferably, the
hall should be arranged in a semi-circle where attendants will
be able to maintain eye contact with one another. Also, the
speakers should be able to see everyone to ensure that they
are able to engage with the audience in an effective manner.
Needs and/or Supplies The supplies needed will include; chairs, tables, table cloths,
tablets, handouts, microphones, water bottles, snacks,
notebooks, pens, a whiteboard, and serviettes.

This will ensure that even
those attendants who will not
have a tablet will have access
to the content being
discussed. Also, there will be
enough handouts, and these
will ensure that everyone will

a copy each and they can take

conference hall that is inclusive and one that accommodates
the needs of different participants. Thus, the conference will
be modified to ensure that it creates an appropriate
environment for the speakers to engage different people, and
also for the participants to engage in discussions with each

other. The facilitator will thus use the understanding of
diverse learning needs and individual differences to create a
conference environment that will ensure an inclusive
environment where healthy and successful discussions will be

The facilitator understands that tools and other equipment are
necessary for the mastery of the content to be delivered during
the conference. The facilitator will thus provide as many of
the required tools as possible. However, a shortage is bound
to occur in the event that a higher turn-out that the expected
number is experienced. In such a case, improvisation of
materials and sharing of the available materials among the
attendants will facilitate a smooth running of the conference.
The materials and supplies will be used to facilitate discussion
and ensure that the speakers enjoy an interactive session with

the participants. Also, materials such as tablets and handouts
will ensure that participants have access to the content being
delivered.
