Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are making their presence visible in the health
care industry. Robots are performing tasks such as assisting in surgeries and in providing care, to
even conversing with patients. Robots are taking on an active role in the delivery of services in
healthcare (Yu et al., 2018). Thus, it is paramount to have nurses who are educated and aware of
the changes that the integration of technology is bringing into their profession. Nurses spend a
significant amount of their time on coordinating lab results, paperwork, and making searches on
medication and supplies. The integration of AI and robotics into the delivery of healthcare
services can automate hospital ancillary and services provided in the hospital but out of the
doctor’s room, thus allowing nurses ample time with the patients.
Project Description
This paper presents a proposal on the integration of artificial intelligence and robotics
into the organization to help with back-office services. I am proposing that the organization
incorporate the use of robots, which will help in the automation of ancillary services at the
hospital. Nurses at the organization are currently spending their shifts performing quite a number
of tasks, some of which can be handled by robots. For instance, instead of spending time on
paperwork, the robots can be instructed to update medical records. Also, patients who need end
of life care can have that provided by robots. The physician and the nurse informaticist can help
provide data about the patients that will be used in the customization of a robot that will help
substitute the care provided by a nurse. The patients can then take the robots home, and they will
interact socially with them, thus reducing the feelings of loneliness. The robots will be poised to
perform these actions through accurate behavior predictions (Luxton, 2016).

Stakeholders who will be Impacted by the Project
First, nurses will be positively impacted. Their workload will reduce, and this will allow
them ample time to provide care to patients. They will also become more efficient as errors
caused by human weakness will be reduced. Also, patients will receive more attention as nurses’
workload will significantly reduce. Further, nurse informaticists will e impacted as they will
work closely with physicians and other technology experts in coming up with customized robots
that will be able to correctly predict behavior. They will especially be more involved in coming
up with robots that will be used by the aged. The management of the organization will make an
investment as the robots are likely to cost them a huge amount of money. Since the costs
incurred will be transferred, patients are likely to incur more for services. Specifically, the aged
who will need to take the devices home will have to purchase them, and this might be quite
costly.
Patient Outcomes
Robots are able too emotionally to respond to circumstances. They will be entering the
lives of elderly patients and help keep them company by responding to human interactions.
Patients will be able to receive home care. The devices will collect medical information, such as
heart monitoring. As a result, patients will be able to receive care in the comfort of their homes.
Aging patents will not have to go to nursing homes for elderly care. The robots will impact the
patients positively by enabling them to receive unlimited care without having to make visits to
the healthcare facility (Robert, 2019).
Technologies Required in the Implementation of the Project

The project will require the use of 4G and 5G internet as this is how patient data will be
transmitted from their homes to a remote server in the hospital. Also, the smart prosthesis will be
used in the hospital by physicians to help patients with their muscles or body organs such as
limbs to be treated and provided with proper care (Davenport & Kalakota, 2019). Further, the
organization will require robots such as the Moxi robot, which is a brand of robots produced by
Diligent robotics. These robots carry out tasks such as taking items and cleaning and restocking.
The robots will ensure that nurses spend more time performing tasks that require human touch
while machines do other tasks. Further, cloud technology will be used to store information
received from different robots, and this will hold information as it is analyzed and recorded
through EHRs.
The project team and the incorporation of nurse informaticists in the project
Nurse informaticists will help the organization prepare for and implement the
transformations, which are fueled by technology. Some of the roles they will engage in include
steps related to the use of data and thus help in ensuring that security standards are in place to
ensure that patient data is safe and secure. The aim is to ensure that confidentiality is not
breached and unauthorized people do not have access to patient records (Carroll, 2019). Nurse
informaticists will be helping in designing the AI implementation processes. They will do so
through collaborating with vendors and information technology (IT) experts who will be helping
the organization in implementing the idea. Further, they will help in the evaluation of the AI
outputs, and this will be necessary for controlling quality (Reddy & Purohit, 2019). Lastly, nurse
informaticists will help orient other nurse practitioners on the functioning o the new systems as
well as help them understand how their roles will change.

The project team will also comprise AI tech researchers who will work hand in hand with
the AI vendors, the nurse informaticists and physicians, in ensuring that the robots are
customized to meet the needs of individual patients. Also, they will provide maintenance
services just in case the robots malfunction or fail. If necessary, they will also customize the
robots to ensure that they perform tasks that do not require a human touch. Nurse practitioners
will come in and carry out tasks alongside AI and robots. They will specifically provide care that
requires a human touch.
Conclusion
Overall, AI and robotics have a role to play in the provision of quality healthcare. The
implementation of this project will enhance the patient outcome and the efficiencies of the
provision of care. The main challenge to AI and robotics is not whether they will be useful, but it
is in their adoption in the provision of day to day care to patients. The widespread use of I and
robotics will require them to be integrated with other already existing systems such as electronic
healthcare records (EHR). It is clear that AI and robotics are not here to replace nurses and
clinicians, but to enhance the delivery of care. The adoption of this project for implementation
will ensure that positive patient outcomes are achieved.
