From the video, reciprocal teaching has a goal of preparing learners to run their own
discussions. Students have to take a turn as leaders. The students assume the responsibility of
guiding the learning process by being equipped with the necessary skills. The kids get a little
help from the teacher and begin with the first step, which is asking a question
(Wetalearningmedia, 2008). The second step is to get clarification on words that they may not
know. The third step is making a summary of what they have read and the main ideas in the text.
The final step is making a prediction.
Finally, explain how reciprocal teaching helps students comprehend what they read more
deeply and how it also reflects this idea of “close reading” as described by the Common
Core Standard. Which educational psychology theory or theories does reciprocal teaching
employ?
Reciprocal teaching is learner-centred. The learners are encouraged to engage in critical
thinking throughout the learning process. Students are also actively involved in monitoring their
comprehension as they study. Students are taught to ask questions, and this makes the learners
comprehend more. Reciprocal teaching also encouraged interactions between learners.
Reciprocal teaching reflects the idea of close reading because it encourages learners to undertake
a thoughtful and critical analysis of a passage or a text (Boyles, 2013). Reciprocal reading also
results in learners gaining a deeper understanding of a text or a passage.

I believe that reciprocal teaching employs the theory of observational learning.
Observational learning is learning through imitation (LeFrançois, 2018). Students observe the
teacher and other learners and in so doing learn how to do things.
