Explain the major approaches of Montessori-style education and of traditional educationformats for children

Montessori is an innovative, child-centered approach. One major theme of Montessori-
style education is the fact that learners learn based on their educational interests. The implication
is that learning occurs naturally as learners are exposed to their educational interests at that point
in time. The role of teachers is also different in the Montessori approach. Teachers offer
guidance as opposed to instructing. The interest of teachers is the needs of the child. The teachers
also focus on the developmental levels of the learners. The design of the classroom is also
fundamentally different. The classroom features an innovative design to encourage movement
and collaboration.
The typical traditional classroom centers on teachers as opposed to learners. The child is
not given an opportunity to learn at their pace. The teacher plays a central role in directing the
learning process. Children are subjected to tests that are graded as they are prepared for
graduation. Traditional learning does not aim to ensure that learners learn at their own pace.
Instead, it forces students to learn items that they may not necessarily like.

   that would foster teamwork in
   children.
5. Children are not given a chance to choose
   learning activities. In addition, the classrooms
   are larger than those of the Montessori
   system.
