Letter Review
Letter #1
- Was the writer’s approach appropriate?
The approach was appropriate. However, the introduction appears to be a repetition. The
writer’s name is already in the address, so it would have been more appropriate if the
writer went straight to making the request.
- Was the request clearly written and easy to understand?
The request was clearly written and easy to understand. It is easy to tell what the aim of
the letter is in the first paragraph.
- Did the argument/information support the requested amount?
The information provided supports the request. The writer uses statistical facts to defend
the argument presented. The writer also mentions research conducted in line with the
request being made, supporting the urgency to buy the water disinfector required to
ensure that there is clean and safe water for drinking.
- How clear was the flow and organization of the letter?
The letter is well organized, and it flows smoothly from the beginning to the end. It is
divided into paragraphs, and each paragraph addresses a different idea thus making it
easy to follow through and understand.
- Did the facts and assumptions make sense?
LETTER REVIEW 3
The facts and assumptions presented in the letter make sense. The facts are well
organized by supported by studies done by other scholars ascertaining the use of the
water disinfector as a method of water treatment.
- Did the writer support the facts adequately?
The facts are supported, although the writer would have done better. The writer would
have, for instance, cited statistics showing children that have died or developed illnesses
related to consuming infected water. Such statistics would have been supported the
request well and shown the urgency in honoring it.
- How could the letter have been approved?
The letter could have been approved by having the organization acknowledge receipt of
the letter and promised to look into delivering the water disinfector.
- Did the writer use proper grammar and mechanics? Identify the errors.
Grammar is properly used apart from a few mistakes that the writer made in the letter.
For example, the writer writes, “The issue of unsanitary water is the cause of major
health concern and diseases in all people,” the word “concern” should be “concerns.” A
few commas are omitted; otherwise the paper is well written.
- Was the use of APA correct? Identify mistakes.
The writer correctly uses APA in listing the references; however, the letter lacks a
running head and a cover, which are required in APA.
