Development

Read aloud to the
children.
I will start by
introducing the title
of the text and the
author, then read out
loud to the children.
Then discuss what
the selected text was
about and then
engage the learners
by asking them to
reread certain parts of
the text for them to
get a deeper
understanding of
what it is about
(Honigsfeld &
Cohan, 2015). Ask
students to explain
what they have read
or what stood out for
them in the text.

Independent
Reading.
I will provide
learners with an
opportunity to read
and reread books on
their own. Also, they
will borrow books
and read them while
at home with their
guardians or parents.

Use literature
circles.
Students will be
invited to select
books on their own
and independently
read them. Literature
circles will then be
set, and students will
discuss the books
they selected
(Honigsfeld &
Cohan, 2015). One
member of the group
will facilitate the
discussions by
reading the book out
loud, while others
follow along and
discuss aspects of the
book that stand out
for them, connect the
reading with their
personal lives as well
as with the rest of the
world.

Rationale Reading out aloud is  Independent Literature circles

meant to guide the
learners on how
words used in the text
are pronounced. The
discussion introduces
and teaches learners
high-frequency
words and how they
are used in a text. It
also helps them
identify words that
they can recognize
and use. The strategy
is effective in helping
learners gain
confidence as they
acquire skills for
independent

reading gives
students room
to reflect on
what they are
reading.
Allowing
them ample
time to carry
books home
ensures that
they have
enough
opportunities
to read and
re-read the
books until
they are
familiar with
it. It is a way
of fostering
responsibility
as learners
have control
of the
learning
process. At
this stage,
learners have
started to read
purposefully
and relate
