A Letter from Boston

Hello Tim, I hope that you are good since you transferred. I am also doing good, but a lot
has been happening. I specifically wish to inform you that our nation is on the brink of war. The
events of March 5 th have left us in a state of uncertainty. A street fight occurred on this day that
quickly escalated into a massacre. At first, it was just a street brawl between a lone British
soldier and American colonists. However, this turned into a bloody slaughter within minutes. I
hear that the soldier was guarding the Custom House located on King Street when angry
colonists started insulting him. He fought back, and the colonists started pelting stones, ice, and
snowballs. Bells rang all over town, and many male colonists came to the streets. Although there
has been tension this year through, it only escalated to such levels on March 5 th . It is sad, and I
fear for my country.
I think that the foreign government is responsible for the chaos. Life has become worse.
People are living in abject poverty, unemployment is high, and the taxes continue rising. The
foreign government keeps sending troops to impose taxation orders on us. I feel like as a country
we have had enough. We are at the edge of an uprising, and there is no hope for a reconciliation.
The good news is that after all this is over, a new nation will emerge. Revolutionary sentiments
are all over, and I have a feeling that we will be free soon. An American revolution is coming,
and the British soldiers will soon clear the streets. We have hope for a brighter tomorrow as our
people have repelled repressive taxes and other policies aimed at making life hard. I hope that by
the time you come back, we will be a free country.
