Considering Charter Schools

Compass Montessori School uses teaching methodologies that are built on the intellect of
the students in different levels and their spiritual potential. Materials used to enhance teaching
are self-correcting, and they focus on the learning process. The school has unique instructional
techniques as students learn through tailored materials that are aligned to scaffolded teaching
techniques aimed at reaching specific educational goals. The school practices sensorial and
experiential learning whereby students become engaged in learning when they can integrate their
senses in a learning environment that is specially prepared. Learning and teaching materials used
are age and size appropriate, and students study in multi-aged classrooms. Students are put in
groups comprising of learners of different ages as this provides them with an opportunity to be
students and leaders in a diverse community. The cornerstones of daily life within a Montessori
classroom are responsibility, respect, courtesy, and grace.
Compass Montessori School addresses the individual needs of its student body by
designing curriculum goals and unique instruction strategies. Elementary children are helped to
develop motor skills through the incorporation of fine and large motor movements into the
activities. Each child is instructed on the use of materials for their own unique purpose. Every
child is guided in the development of order, discipline, and sense of spatial relations by selecting
the work, adjusting their grip, taking it to the table, and positioning themselves in a comfortable
manner that enhances their mastery of the environment.
Secondary school students are taken through farm school through Erdkinder program that
helps students during their adolescent stages. In farm school, students analyze their resources and
operate microeconomics and specific occupations. They are guided on how to understand their

society and civilizations as they have an authentic way through which academic knowledge is
applied in real-life situations. In the high school level, students learn about other cultures, and
they are taken through exploration and discovery of how they can contribute to the world
through developing an inner vocation.
Overall, I would teach in a charter school because just like any other school, these
schools follow state and federal educational policies. Also, charter schools bring together a great
commitment between parents, students, and the larger community. Such schools enhance societal
commitment to community service. As the community volunteers in building classrooms,
helping prepare teaching materials, and fixing buildings in schools, they promote a sense of
compassion. Students also learn acts of service directly from the community. Charter schools
provide a great opportunity for good relationships within the school community and larger
society to thrive.
