Role of Religious Studies on My Career

Learning about different religions will certainly have a positive impact on my career.
One of the great things about learning about different religions is that one gets to learn about
different cultures as well since religion is a key component of people’s culture. Through my
studies of different religions, I have learned about Middle-Eastern, Chinese, Japanese, Indian,
African, European, and American religions and, by extension, their cultures. I believe that
such extensive studies of other people cultures have made me more culturally aware and
culturally sensitive.

In an increasingly globalized world, cultural awareness, sensitivity and competence
have become important skills that everyone should master. They help a person to comfortably
interact and work with people from different backgrounds. Thus, cultural awareness and the
cultural competence that it breeds are going to become important skills that have the potential
of making or breaking people’s careers in future. Thankfully, the cultural competence that I
have gained through my study of different religions will help to make rather than break my
career.

The study of different religions is also going to have a positive impact on my future
career because it has taught me important critical thinking skills. Critical thinking involves
objective analysis of issues before making a decision. It is a skill that is highly valued by
employers because it is associated with effective decision-making in leaders. Studying many
religions has taught me to challenge my own ideas, acknowledge weaknesses and strengths of
my religious beliefs and practices, and general worldview, and appreciate the fact that there
could be multiple sound explanations for the same phenomena. Such teachings have made me
to become a critical thinker, and through critical thinking, I believe I will be able to have a

successful career. Thus, the study of multiple religions will have a generally positive impact
on my career.
