To start, you canThe internet has made it possible for people to watch a lot of movies and television
shows in a convenient manner. Thanks to smartphones, people can watch their favorite
movies and television shows from anywhere and at any time. Such changes in technology
have increased demand for new television shows and movies. Therefore, television and
movie producers are always looking for new great television and movie scripts to meet the
never-ending entertainment demands from consumers. In this paper, a movie pitch that fits in
current entertainment trends in the USA. It also examines the influence of entertainment on
American culture.
Movie Pitch
The title of my movie is Escape to Mosul. In the movie, two former American history
professors, John Cohen and Andrew Smith, arrive in Baghdad. Having stayed without a job
for a year after being sacked, the two men are broke and in desperate need to revive their
financial fortunes. Their plan is to research and write a book about post-Saddam Hussein’s
Baghdad. They hope that the book and the money from its sales will help to revive their
careers.
Within weeks of arriving in the war-torn city, they come into contact with Abdul, a
former torturer and executioner in the Saddam Hussein regime. His life is in imminent danger
as many of his victims and their family members are hunting for him in Baghdad. The only
place he can live his life in relative safety is in the northern city of Mosul, where many
former members of Saddam Hussein regime have taken refuge. Abdul pleads with Cohen and
Smith to smuggle him out of Baghdad in return for a share of hundreds of millions of dollars
that are stored in safe house in the outskirts of Mosul that is only known by Abdul.

Having no military experience to make such an undertaking, Cohen and Smith enlist
the services of Captain Kennedy, a member of elite American special forces. To escape from
Baghdad, they have to do a lot of fighting against Abdul’s enemies who have learnt of his
escape plan. Once they arrive in Mosul, they learn that someone had stolen Abdul’s money
from the safe house the previous day. When they start looking for the thief, they discover that
he is actually Abdul’s cousin and the theft was part of Abdul’s plan to deny them their share
of the money and kill them. The movie ends with the three men killing Abdul and his cousin
and taking the hundreds of millions that they had hidden. They give a large portion of the
money to Abdul’s victims and remain with the rest.
How the Movie Pitch Fits in Current Market Trends
In recent years, the best-selling movies have been adventure or action movies
(Kendrick, 2019). Movies in the two genres attract the most people into theatres and,
therefore, make the most money. Thus, having a movie in one of these genres or that
combines elements of both genres is likely to be profitable.
Entertainment Trends, American Culture, and Social Behavior
American often spend hours on end watching movies and television shows. Due to the
enormous amount of time that Americans spend on them television shows and movies have
been found to have a significant influence on the behaviors, attitudes, and values (Monaghan,
2020). For instance, movies and television shows about homosexual individuals and families
have played a major role in making the public to be more accepting of homosexuality
(Monaghan, 2020). Movies and television shows have also been found to influence the way
Americans dress, and even the meals that they cook. Apart from influencing American
culture, entertainment also reflects American values. For instance, movies about people going
to great lengths to make money, such as Escape to Mosul that I have presented in the movie

pitch, reflect the obsession Americans have for financial success, regardless of the means that
one uses to achieve the success.
