Strategy change cycle is an approach that I would likely suggest if tasked with
formulating a strategic plan process. The approach links the strategic plan and its
implementation (Bryson, 2018). It is important to remember that strategic plans are meant to
address strategic issues that an organization faces due to changes either in its internal or
external environment. However, even as it addresses these issues, the organization still has a
mission, vision, and values that guide its daily activities. It is, therefore, important that the
strategic plan does not conflict with these values, mission, and vision. The strategic change
cycle ensures that the strategic plan has a place in the daily activities of the employees.
Strategic change cycle ensures that the strategic plan is formulated with its
implementation in mind. In other words, it makes the plan to be practical and less disruptive
to daily activities of the organization. The key thing that I like about strategic change
management is that calls for involvement of important stakeholders in the organization in the
formulation of the strategic plan (Bryson, 2018). For a strategic plan to be successful, it needs
to have buy-in from key stakeholders. These include stakeholders in the organization’s
internal environment such as employees and shareholders and stakeholders in the
organization’s external environment such as major customers. Buy-in from these stakeholders
makes it easy for the plan to be implemented in a successful manner.
In my current place of work, strategy change cycle would work by the company’s top
management carrying out a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats)
analysis of the organization. They will then identify strategic issues emanating either from the
organization’s external or internal environment. Then in collaboration with key stakeholders
such as employees, the management will formulate a strategy and plan to address these

strategic issues in a manner that aligns with the organization’s mission and vision. Such an
approach makes it easy for the strategic plan to be implemented successfully.
