Leadership is perhaps the most important factor that determines whether an
organization is able to achieve its objectives or not. Organizations need constantly have
competent leaders for them to enjoy long-term success. Through the use of corporate
leadership programs, organizations can succeed in having most of the leaders whose qualities
they need to remain competitive in-house.
Given $100,000, I will use the money to create a corporate leadership program that is
based on mentorship. The first part of this program will be selection of participants. In
choosing the candidates for the leadership program, the main goal will be to look for
employees who are most likely to bring success, ambition, and energy to the organization
(Donelly, 2010). To ensure that the selected employees bring these qualities to the
organization, the criteria for selection will emphasize desire, general intelligence,
psychological fitness, confidence, and purpose (Pernick, 2002).
The activities of the program will involve pairing of the selected employees with
senior employees of the organization. As part of the mentorship program, the senior
employees will regularly meet with the selected candidates and discuss, among other things,
work styles, time management, people management, how best to establish and achieve
organizational goals, personal conduct, and other issues related to effective leadership. For
smooth running of the program, there will be clear guidelines for employee-mentor
relationship. These guidelines will stipulate, among others, when to meet, for how long, issues
to be discussed, and mechanisms of additional communication between the two. Frequent
feedback will be sought with the goal of improving the program so that it achieves its goals.

To determine whether the program is effective or not, there will be need to collect
various types of data. The data, collected through surveys, will measure compatibility of the
mentor and mentee, satisfaction with the program, progress towards the program’s stated
goals, and satisfaction of both the mentor and the mentee. This data will help to determine the
success rate of the program.
