We recently hired Shirley Williams as a driver and he is suffering
from lupus. As his employers, we should be aware of the legal concerns involving his protection
at the workplace and ensure the prevention of discrimination as a person living with lupus. The Equal
The Employment Opportunity Commission is tasked with the role of prohibiting discrimination against all
disabled people(Doyle, 2020). This body offers training to ensure no discrimination.
The Americans with Disabilities Act protects these individuals from discrimination such as
promotions at work and wages. The statute of confidentiality ensures that the information about
people living with lupus is treated with confidentiality.
I advise that we should develop policies and implement policies that will ensure that all
workers are treated the same regardless of their race,gender and disabilities. The company should
also sign up for training on working with people with disabilities such as Shirley. This will
ensure that he is granted the right conditions and environment to safely work without putting him
at risk. The Civil rights Act,1975 prohibits discrimination of people based on their
gender,religion,sex,colour,or race. The rights against discrimination of people living with
disabilities are under the Americans with disabilities Act. The company should ensure that our

policies are well aligned with the provisions of the law to make sure Shirley’s reasonable
accommodation.
The equal employment opportunity Act provides that all persons with skills and
qualifications should be granted equal chances of securing employment. Shirley is a skilled and
qualified driver and the disease she is suffering from can be managed to ensure she pursues her
career and earns an income. She deserves reasonable care and accommodation(Lupus Foundation
of America, 2020). The company can also let her go if after granting her reasonable care and
accommodation she fails to drive well. Her termination should be subject to employment and
labour law.
