Reflection: Scholarly Sources

Hello everyone, this class was interesting because I got to explore the differences
between primary sources, secondary sources, and tertiary sources. I also found it interesting
to compare a scholarly source and a non-scholarly source. I got to understand that there is a
difference between a scholarly source and a non-scholarly source. Scholarly sources are
authoritative, and this means that they are mainly written by experts in a certain field. In
academic writing, one needs to support their arguments using scholarly sources.
Scholarly sources conduct extensive research on certain areas. The content is also reviewed
by academic peers, and this makes the source to be credible. On the other hand, popular
sources are intended for the general audience. They are mainly written with a view of
persuading or informing the general public on certain important information. The use of
popular sources is important because it helps inform the audience on current events. In some
instances, popular sources offer the opinion of the author. They do not have a bibliography
and typically fail to cite research on the topic undertaken. I will ensure that I select sources
appropriately for my future research. I aim to ensure that my research is backed by
appropriate scholarly sources.
