To start, you canOne of the most compelling topics in this course was ethics. I learned a lot about
handling patient data and what to do to avoid a breach of confidentiality. Patient data is protected
under law, and there are guidelines on how it can be shared and to whom.
Participating in discussions has been impactful and has enhanced my understanding of
key course concepts. The discussion forums provided an opportunity to interact with my peers on
different topics related to my profession. More so, in discussions where we were asked to
give work-related experiences, I could relate to most of the experiences that my peers shared. I
learned other ways of responding to situations in my daily practice as a nurse through
exchanging ideas with my peers. The discussions were not only lively but informative as well. I
engaged in thorough discussions and did not find anything unclear relating to the topics that we
had covered.
I think that multiple representations of information would have helped me gain additional
valuable information. For instance, the use of multimedia to present information would have
enhanced my understanding. Also, presenting information in audio-visual formats or the use of
slides would have helped in understanding the course concepts as well as seeing practically how
some of the skills and concepts are applied in real life.
This course will have a huge impact on my future nursing practice. Specifically, I have
learned a lot about ethics in the nursing practice that is related to handling electronic medical
records. According to Anderson (2019), patient data is stored electronically so that it can be used
in treatment for the individual patient as well as for making critical healthcare decisions.
Breaching data security could have negative impacts on the patient, family members as well as
on the nurse or staff who breached confidentiality.
