I was assigned to Joe’s case. As life changes, one is likely to experience stress.
College life is a significant lifestyle change that could result in stress. In Joe’s case, he has
just enrolled in an online institution. He is also working, and this means that enrolling in the
course creates an additional stressor on his life. Working part-time means that he works early
mornings, afternoons, evenings, and some weekends. Joining college puts an additional strain
on his schedule. He has to ensure that he achieves good grades and continues to work to
finance his education as well as to feed his family. He has missed an assignment, and this
puts him at risk of getting poor grades. Today’s society puts a strain on individuals and
requires them to accomplish a lot in the shortest time period. Joe is thus required to continue
working while ensuring that he continues to study. Joe could be experiencing a course
overload, and this has resulted in some form of predicament. Many learners take on too many
courses with the hope that they will graduate sooner. The end result is that this results in one
suffering physically or psychologically.
Joe is married, and while he and his partner have a good marital relationship, they
have problems related to finances. Danielle does not work, and this means that Joe is the sole
breadwinner. College students experience stressors that relate to finances. College is
expensive, and this means that it puts a strain on the students. In Joe’s case, he has to pay his
fees and cater to the needs of his family. Joe is thus experiencing stress emanating from
various stressors. The end result is that he has been forced to use alcohol as a way of coping.

    1. Propose at least four appropriate interventions as discussed in the course text, and
identify whether these fall within the life-situation, perception, or emotional arousal

intervention. One of these interventions needs to address the financial stressors of the
    college student.
There are various appropriate interventions. They include

    1. exercise
    2. meditation
    3. Autogenic training
    4. Educational loan
The interventions proposed fall under life-situational intervention. The aim is to eliminate
unnecessary stressors and chose another road towards dealing with the stressors. The
interventions seek to have a better method of coping.
    5. Assess how one of your intervention recommendations would change if the college
      student was a minority
The interventions would remain the same. However, I would work on addressing the
additional stressor that may stem from racism and culture shock. I would therefore
recommend that Joe establishes a strong support network. Racism and discrimination can
have a huge impact on the life of a student from the minority groups. A strong support system
can help the student overcome the barriers created by racism.
