To start, you canThe American Medical Association (AMA) is one of the organizations that offer
ethical guidelines to medical practitioners. AMA has developed an ethical framework that is
designed to benefit the patients (The American Medical Association, 2019). AMA ethical
guidelines reinforce the principles of medical ethics. The organization establishes standards
that lay the foundation for the honourable behaviour of physicians (The American Medical
Association, 2019). One ethical guideline provided by the AMA relates to the Patient-
Physician relationship. AMA seeks to ensure that all healthcare workers create a solid
relationship that is founded on the communication of important healthcare decisions (The
American Medical Association, 2019). Under the AMA healthcare ethical guidelines,
healthcare workers are required to ensure that they help patients to make proper and well–
considered decisions about their healthcare and treatment.
The AMA also gives healthcare professionals the responsibility to ensure that they
obey the rules that pertain to patient confidentiality. The privacy of patients is important in
healthcare settings. Through maintaining privacy, healthcare professionals can build
trust and foster ethical decision-making (The American Medical Association, 2019). In
addition, the AMA establishes ethical guidelines that relate to genetics and reproductive
medicine. Healthcare providers have an ethical responsibility to conduct appropriate
genetic testing and ensure that the information obtained is used in making informed
decisions (The American Medical Association, 2019). AMA examines how healthcare
providers are supposed to take care of patients who are at the end of life. AMA gives
healthcare providers the responsibility to ensure that they understand the wishes of
patients who are at the end of life (The American Medical Association, 2019).
