Mankind puts an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind

Hi, my name is Maricel, and my topic is the quote by John F. Kennedy: “Mankind puts an end to
war, or war will put an end to mankind”—war results from conflicts that occur between two or
more sides. One characteristic common, especially in world wars, is the taking of sides and non-
negotiable conditions, which in most cases increases the size of the conflict, leading to an event
that marks the beginning of wars. I will discuss how many people have suffered the
consequences of war, the cost of wars, and why we should avoid another war.
Americans have suffered the consequences of war. The month of September marks a sad month
as Americans commemorate and remember victims who died in the 9/11 attacks, which were
devastating to the people and economy. America also entered a war with Afghanistan and Iraq,
sending soldiers. Some lost their lives, and others were left with permanent physical and
psychological trauma.
Wars are expensive and do not help anyone. The aftermath of most wars is death, destruction,
and displacement. People lose their families and friends; they run from their homes and lose their
money and income. The aftermath of war includes periods of uncertainty brought about by fear
and shock according to (Jackson, 2008). Therefore, rebuilding may take years and it is unlikely
that many countries affected ever get to the places they were before the wars.
We should avoid wars because the next war will be more sophisticated. According to Beckley
(2018), most countries seem to be increasing military spending because it represents power.
Most countries also seem to be upgrading their skills in preparation for a war that has not been
declared. It only helps to raise tensions between conflicting sides. Therefore, the next war may
be more sophisticated and have more casualties than any other war ever witnessed.
In conclusion, I agree with John F. Kennedy that humanity must put an end to war before war
puts an end to humanity. There are other ways to solve conflict without resulting in war.
Humankind must raise its tolerance levels to where we all live and let live.
