August, although some communities may choose alternate dates due to weather or other
considerations. The primary goal of National Night Out is to heighten crime prevention
awareness and generate support for local anti-crime efforts. By organizing local events, such as
block parties, cookouts, parades, and various activities, communities aim to strengthen
community bonds, promote positive interactions between residents and law enforcement, and
foster a sense of shared responsibility for neighborhood safety.

community organizations, local businesses, and civic groups to create a festive atmosphere.

Activities may include police and fire department demonstrations, crime prevention

ii. NYPD’s Community Affairs Bureau
The Community Affairs Bureau (CAB) of the New York Police Department (NYPD) is a
specialized unit dedicated to building and maintaining positive relationships between the police
and the communities they serve. The CAB works to enhance communication, trust, and
collaboration by implementing various programs and initiatives. Here are some key aspects of
the NYPD’s Community Affairs Bureau: Neighborhood Policing: The CAB plays a crucial role
in the implementation of the NYPD’s Neighborhood Policing model. This approach aims to
strengthen the bond between police officers and community members by assigning dedicated
officers, known as Neighborhood Coordination Officers (NCOs), to specific neighborhoods.
NCOs work closely with residents, local organizations, and community leaders to address
concerns, provide support, and build lasting relationships.
