Brief Summary of the Project
The project entails the construction of a Community Garden in the Alabama, Montgomery
area. The garden will be established on leased land and will run for ten years as that is the period
of the lease. The aim is to grow fresh vegetables such as beans, bell peppers, tomatoes, broccoli,
peas, beets, and leaf amaranth. Thirteen adoption centers will have access to the garden and will
help in tending the plants and harvesting them as well. The Community garden aims to provide
affordable vegetables to the community, conserve the environment, as well as enhance it by
beautifying it. Children adoption centers located in the neighborhood will benefit from the
garden as they will have fresh and cheap vegetable supply from the garden.
The matrix-based structure will be used in the management of the project with an aim to
sparingly use the already scarce resources. Specifically, the project will use the strong matrix and
will have a project manager and several administrative managers to help in the proper
management of the project. The roles of the project manager will entail making decisions and
overseeing each phase of the project to completion and its proper running after each phase is
completed. Further, the administrative managers will be tasked with making solid decisions on
matters pertaining to their jurisdiction.
The main customers for the produce are the Catholic family center and the Agape
adoption center. The two centers will directly benefit from the garden. They will consume its
produce, and develop ways to sell any surplus produce. Funds raised will be used to cater to
other needs within the adoption centers. The centers are the main stakeholders in the project and
will be the direct beneficiaries of the garden. Other stakeholders include local authorities, charity

groups, and community members who will be actively involved in raising funds to keep the
project running.
Goals and Objectives
The community garden project is aimed at creating an affordable means for children
within adoption centers to have access to fresh vegetables. It is a project that will benefit non-
profit organizations that take care of orphaned children in Alabama, Montgomery. The project
will be established and run using finances raised from charitable organizations and members of
the community. The objective is to provide food and money to the Agape adoption center and
Catholic family center. The two centers will take care of and harvest the vegetables for their own
consumption. They will sell the surplus and use the one to meet other needs within the adoption
centers such as buy clothes for the children. The objective is to use the least possible capital to
establish and keep the garden running, with the main purpose being to help the children within
the two centers.
The goal of the project is to incur the extra costs in its establishment, but the project will
be self-sufficient once it is started and running. Funds raised from selling surplus produce will be
used to grow other vegetables and maintain them. Additionally, any extra costs incurred will be
financed through money raised from charitable organizations and well-wishers. A charity
program will be established to raise money for the project. The project manager will manage the
finances and ensure that resources are well-managed since they are scarce. The community
members will be the backbone of the community garden project.

Identification of the land where the garden will be located in one of the important
landmarks. It is important to look around the neighborhood for vacant land that can be leased.
The site should be suitable for farming and should not have extensive debris that can hinder the
farming process. The land should be within walking distance or a short drive away from the
neighborhood. The next important milestone is leasing the land. Leasing the land comes after the
soil is tested, and negotiations with the owner are complete. Soil testing ensures that the soil is
fertile and suitable for the establishment of a community garden. Signing the lease will ensure
that the process of establishing a community garden starts. Another important milestone is
cleaning the site. Cleaning the site will be done by getting the neighbors involved. Having many
people to help clean the site for the community garden will guarantee the success of the project.
Flyers inviting people to help prepare the site for the community garden will go a long way in
achieving this milestone.
Timeline
Searching for the appropriate piece of land where the community garden will be located
will start immediately. In six months, an appropriate piece of land should be obtained. The leases
should also be signed in six months to facilitate the start of the planning process. Cleaning the
land should be done in a month. All stakeholders should be actively involved in the cleaning of
the land. Planning should be done in a month after the cleaning is complete. Garden meetings
should be held, and deliberations should be recorded to facilitate the implementation of a robust
plan. Garden infrastructure should be laid down. By February 2021, seeds should be acquired.
Seeds and seedings based on the plan should be purchased. Planting should begin immediately
and should be complete by March 2021. A water system should also be set. A water system is
helpful because it ensures that irrigation is done. Maintenance should then begin, including
