individual, there was one instance when I got highly emotional following an argument with my
father. Notably, my father had just got home from work and found me with some friends in the
house. He came in angered and shouted at my friends and asked them to leave immediately. I felt
so angered at my father, and we got into an argument. I may have gone overboard because I used
some abusive words.
A critical examination of the situation indicates that it was emotional due to many
reasons. One of the reasons why it was emotional is because it was associated with emotional
behavior because I got agitated and raised my voice when talking to my father. Additionally, the
situation was emotional because it was accompanied by bodily responses, especially as my heart
was racing because of my agitation (Yiend et al., 2012). It is vital to acknowledge that during an
emotional situation, adrenaline is released, and it enhances sympathetic activity leading to
acceleration of heart rate. The situation was emotional because it was associated with feelings,
especially anger because I was annoyed at my father for sending my friends away for no
apparent reason (Yiend et al., 2012).
My emotion did help the situation because my father apologized the next day for his
erroneous behavior. Also, my emotion helped me appreciate that I had gone overboard using
abusive words, and I also apologized to my father for my anger. In my situation, the emotions
helped change the behavior of my father of overreacting when he is angered. Additionally, the
emotion was useful because it helped me understand that I need to control my agitation.
