Community policing is an idea whereas police community programs are tangible and can consist
of services offered by the police to the community or other applications. Examples would be
teaching, engaging in clean-up exercises.
Community policing are ideas generated to govern a given community. Community
policing, not only helps create good public relations by the police to citizens but also proper
sharing of the crimes and dangers that can befall the citizens (Green,1988). Community policing
comes about when police officers are deployed in an area for a very long period so that they can
be part of the community they guard and try to understand the various shortcomings face a group
of people in one geographical area.
Community policing does help members of a minority community be free with the police
in that area, and hence it becomes easy for them to avert a crisis or a crime even before it
happens. Community policing helps to bring about an excellent social, economic livelihood that
flourishes because being a minority group; it’s easier for them to protect their social lives
Skogan, (2006). The citizens are at will to share unlawful and criminal actions going on in the
area. According to McLaughlin (2006) natives of the minority population have a better
knowledge and understanding of the police department and how it is run and sharing information
becomes easy as the citizens are conversant with the system. Policing authorities are using
technologies and giving the public some of it like different ways of how to reach them
(Manning,2015) use of some gadgets distributed by the police force makes it easier to have
cordial relationship with the public.
