Funding and Marketing Plans for No Child Left Behind

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) is a New York City-based non-profit early childhood
development and education center that helps pre-school immigrant children balance the mastery
English and their native languages so that they will not be at a disadvantage when they enter
school. This paper outlines funding and marketing plans designed to help the organization raise
more funds to enable it meet increased demand for its services.
Part 1: Prospect Form
Funding Source #1: Foundation for Child Development (FCD)
Foundation for Child Development. (n.d.). Mission. Retrieved from Foundation for Child
Development: https://www.fcd-us.org/about-us/mission/
For over 100 years, FCD has been building better lives for young children through its primary
goal and mission of using research and analysis to identify needs and influence policy
(Foundation for Child Development, n.d.). The organization also makes grants to non-profits that
mostly support immigrant children learning dual languages. Between 2014 and 2016, the
organization made three such grants totaling to $1.2 million (Early Childhood Funders
Collaborative, n.d.).
Funding Source #2: W. K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF)
W. K. Kellogg Foundation. (n.d.). Who We Are. Retrieved from W. K. Kellogg Foundation:
https://www.wkkf.org/who-we-are/overview
Founded in 1930 by breakfast cereal innovator and entrepreneur W. K. Kellogg, WKKF’s
primary goal is to administer funds for the welfare of children and youth, directly or through its
partners, without regard to nationality, race or sex. The funds are received mostly from the W. K.
Kellogg Foundation Trust which owns a majority stake in the Kellogg Company. (W. K. Kellogg

Foundation, n.d.). Like the FCD, among other activities, WKKF also makes grants to non-profit
organizations that support mostly immigrant children involved in learning dual languages.
Between 2013 and 2020, WKKF has made eleven such grants totaling $4.3 million (Early
Childhood Funders Collaborative, n.d.).
Selected Funding Source: WKKF
Although the average grant for both organizations is about $400,000, WKKF is a better fit for
our early childhood program because the organization has been more consistent in making this
kind of grants (for dual language learning). From 2013 when it started to make the grants to
2020, the organization had made at least one grant a year except in 2014, 2018 and 2019. On the
other hand, the last time FCD awarded this kind of grant was in 2016.

Dear Miss Christina,

As the Relationships Development Manager, I am charged with identifying, reaching out to
and building trusting, mutually beneficial relationships with like-minded partners like the W. K.
Kellogg Foundation.
We are a New York City-based non-profit early childhood development and education center
that helps pre-school immigrant children balance the mastery English and their native languages
so that they will not be at a disadvantage when they enter school. In recent times, owing to an
influx of immigrants from Latin America, our center has experienced an exponential growth in
the number of pre-school immigrant children and their facilities seeking our help: from 1,000
children three years ago to 3,000. This phenomenal growth has stretched our resources to the
limit. We are reaching out to seek financial support to help us mitigate the challenges brought
about by the growth.
The funds will be used to expand our dual languages program to accommodate the increased
demand. Specifically, we will use the money to expand our physical facilities; recruit, train and
remunerate 300 hundred additional caregivers; and step up our community outreach activities.
To make all this possible and enable immigrant children enter school on an equal footing
with their native peers, we are seeking a grant of $800,000 from your organization.

Sincerely,

Milton Hass, Relationships Development Manager (RDM)
