To start, you canLike most young men of my age, I have always dreamt of a bright future. I was born in
Greece and spent most of my childhood there. My parents were always concerned for my
education because they believed it would make me better, they still think so. However, when I
was in my 5 th grade, my parents divorced, and I moved here with my mum and an older brother
who was then in 8 th grade. This was a life-defining moment for me. It is easy to lose hope when
you face a difficult situation. I honestly did not know how everything would turn out. I came to a
new country where I had to start afresh.
I had to form new relationships, meet new people, learn a new language and culture.
Everything was different, everything but my dreams. I am currently a senior in high school, and I
still want to be an electrician. My parent’s divorce affected me. My father was a good friend, and
he has always supported my vision. He always says to me, “be the light you want to create.” On
many occasions, he provided guidance, and I have never had a reason not to listen to him. My
mum is a hard-working woman, and I draw my inspiration from her. From the outside, I never
really understood what differences they had that could not be solved. I look up to my dad as an
embodiment of masculinity and leadership and my mum as a pillar of strength and hard work. I
owe it to them to make something great out of myself. So far, I have learned that you cannot plan
everything, and even if you can, not everything goes to plan. In life, the only constant changes. I
changed my lifestyle, my mentality, even my country. My mentality is stronger now than it was
in fifth grade.
My grandfather says to me, from the outside of the dance circle, you sing many songs.
This ancient Greek proverb means that it is easy to have opinions about things that you have not
done. I work with him renovating some rental homes he owns; I like to help with the electrical

work. It gives me the practical edge that I need to grow my experience. He always says everyone
has some work to do, and some people die before doing their job, others get to enjoy the
fulfillment of living their purpose. For those who know their purpose, every action and decision
draws them a step closer to actualizing their life purpose. I believe I am no exception. There may
have been times when I
I have worked as a cashier too; at that point, I thought maybe a career in electricals was
not my purpose. Reflecting on that time, I realized that no two paths are ever the same and that
life has a way of testing your grit and resilience. My approach has always been straightforward. I
know where I want to be; I know what to do to get there. I am sure there is a lot to learn on the
way. I dream of a bright future and a beautiful family, even if my parent’s family didn’t exactly
work out. I am fully controlling my destiny, and I believe I am the best version of myself. Some
things may distract me, but nothing can stop me from fulfilling my destiny.
