I have not used UMUC’s CareerQuest account system for long but my experience so far
has been quite fruitful. It is very simple to set up an account and navigating the system is quite
simple. Moreover, you can access and use the system any time as it operates for 24 hours every
day, including weekends.
Benefits of CareerQuest Account
CareerQuest account has many benefits for its users. Even though I have enjoyed many
benefits from using the account, three stand out. One is networking with alumni. Thanks to
CareerQuest account, I have managed to establish contact with many UMUC alumni who are
currently working in the field of finance and accounting in various industries across the country.
From these contacts I have gained a lot of practical information about the field of accounting and
finance that I believe will serve me well in future. Without a CareerQuest account I definitely
would never have been able to get such a large number of useful contacts in such a short time.
Secondly, I have learnt a lot about creating and presenting a resume. Through the portal’s
various tools and instructional materials, I have learnt how to tailor my resume for a particular
internship or job that I am applying for. The Resunate tool has particularly been of great help as
it provides valuable guidance on how to create a resume that is appropriate for every job that you
apply for.
Lastly, I found the job and internship listings quite valuable. Most of the listings were
from companies and organisations that specifically wanted students and alumni of UMUC. The
listed internship and job positions were, therefore, not in other job portals that I often visit. Thus,
had I not had a CareerQuest account, there is little chance that I would have known about the
listings, many of which were in my field of study.
The benefits of UMUC’s CareerQuest are not just limited to job seekers. The site’s alumni
career connection offers benefits to everyone, including those not seeking jobs. Just because one
does not need a job does not meet that they do not need mentorship for personal and career
development. CareerQuest’s Alumni Career Connection provides one with a platform of
connecting and interacting with many alumni in different fields. Through such interactions one
learns what they need to do to achieve greater success in their current careers. It also helps them
to spot career opportunities that they would otherwise have missed. The Alumni Career
Connection is, therefore, a great resource not just for students seeking to launch their careers
through job placements and mentorship, but also those who are not actively looking for a job.
Importance of Intermediate Accounting II to My Career Objectives
Intermediate Accounting II is a professional course that is required for students planning
to graduate with a degree in accounting. The course is, therefore, important because it helps one
to build a strong foundation for more advanced courses that accounting and finance students
need to get degrees. Equally important, the course equips learners with valuable knowledge that
they need to analyze business transactions, the impact of such transactions on financial
statements, and preparation of financial statements. These are key skills that an accountant

cannot do without. Thus, apart from being important in my academic goals, the course is also
important in my future career as it teaches information and skills needed to make one a
competent accountant.
