Architectural Works Influenced by Greco-Roman Architecture from Renaissance and

Baroque

Numerous architectural works are inspired by Greco-Roman architecture from different
periods, such as the Baroque and Renaissance (Asfour, 2019). The Tuscan architecture (from the
Renaissance) and the Saint Peter’s Square (from the Baroque) are examples of Greco-Roman
architecture.

Functions of the Structures

Typically constructed with travertine, limestone, or terracotta roof tiles and marble,
Tuscan-style architecture blends modern touches and classical architectural elements to give
modern homes their typical old-world European feeling (Vozniak, Slavina, & Kopytova, 2018).

On the other hand, Saint Peter’s Square architecture characterizes the fundamentals of
Vatican City, considered the smallest city in the world. Initially, the square was home to the
Gardens and Nerone Circus. It is also where multiple Christians such as Saint Peter underwent
martyrdom.

How Tuscan and Saint Peter’s Square Architectures Influenced Greco-Roman Periods
The Tuscan and Saint Peter’s Square architectures have pervasively influenced Roman
life. The Romans adopted these architectural styles, an adaptation that enabled the Romans to
create ancient and modern public spaces such as stadiums, large temples, and public baths
(Asfour, 2019). This is a combination of both Greek and Roman influence.
Comparison of the Tuscan and Saint Peter’s Square Architecture
Tuscan architecture calls for high and vaulted ceilings that are paneled or richly textured
with wood, featuring a stenciled decorative border. On the other hand, Saint Peter’s Square is
extravagantly ornamented with reliefs, marble, gilding, and architectural sculpture and contains
numerous tombs of popes and other important people. The Tuscan and Saint Peter’s Square
architecture are regarded as outstanding artworks. Conclusively, Saint Peter’s architecture from
the Baroque and the Tuscan architecture from the Renaissance are were inspired by Greco-
Roman architecture.
