Biography of Beth Galetti

Beth Galetti is one of the accomplished leaders in the current business world. Beth
currently occupies the position of Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Amazon. She is
tasked with overseeing the vast Amazon workforce. The workforce is fast-growing, and the
company currently boasts over 500,000 employees in different countries (McCracken, 2019).
Beth holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University. She also holds a
master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Colorado Technical University. She
kickstarted her career by holding various jobs in computer programming and technical project
management. She has worked as the ice President and Chief Information Officer with FedEx
Express. She later switched and took the position of Vice President of Planning, Engineering, and
operation at FedEx Express. She joined Amazon in the year 2013 and began working as the Vice
President, Human Resources (McCracken, 2019). She took on the role of Senior Vice President
of Human Resources in the year 2016 and still occupies the position to date.
Leadership Style
Beth’s leadership style is characterized by ambition and diligence. Beth is a leader that
actively seeks solutions to the problems that Amazon faces. She quickly implements solutions
that she believes will work well for the organization. She is also an innovative leader. She
actively seeks new and innovative ways of doing things. Beth has created a strong corporate
culture that has resulted in employees feeling a sense of belonging at Amazon (McCracken,
2019). Every employee feels valued, and this has encouraged employees at all ranks to work

diligently and help the company meet its goals and obligations. Beth has also empowered
employees to become innovative and innovate on behalf of the customers.
Beth has helped push for Amazon’s philosophy in customer obsession. The company has
centered on the customers and this has enabled the company grow to unprecedented levels over
the years. Customer obsession can only be achieved through deliberate efforts and the
cooperation of employees (Cutter, 2019). Beth has helped ensure that employees are a part of the
company’s philosophy. She has focused on improving the level of employee satisfaction. Beth
believes that the employee satisfaction helps reduce the costs. Beth’s philosophy is ensuring that
consumers are satisfied through empowering employees to innovate. The leadership style has
resulted in Amazon hiring many innovative employees.
Critique of Beth Galetti’s Leadership Style
Beth is in charge of human resources at Amazon. The company is founded on innovation,
and her leadership style has helped ensure that this philosophy is actualized. Beth has helped
create an innovative workforce that can address the needs of the consumers. Beth has also taken
care of the needs of employees. A majority of human resource managers fail because they fail to
recognize the unique input of the employees. The result is that employees are demotivated, and
this results in low productivity. A company that aims at achieving its set goals and objectives
must ensure that employees work closely with the management (McCracken, 2019). Beth is a
highly effective leader because she has built a competitive workforce. She has also managed to
ensure that the human resource department at Amazon is effective despite the extensive nature of
the workforce. Amazon operates in several countries, and this may pose a challenge to the
human resource department (Cutter, 2019). Beth has conquered the challenges and has managed
to ensure that the company maintains a competitive edge over its consumers.
