resulted in many marriages being dissolved and the weakening of the desire of many people to
enter into the institution of marriage. The rates of divorce are increasing, and this calls on
individuals to reexamine the institution of marriage. Various religious texts have attempted to
solve this problem. Casti Canubii is one of the documents where some answers to the problems
of marriage can be found. Casti Canubii lays emphasis on the sanctity of marriage and, in so
doing, lays important principles that weaken contemporary marriages.

of Christ regarding the institution of marriage is explained. Though mankind had fallen into sin,

exercise their free will even in a marriage and refuse to be bound by divine rules.
There are certain goods that come from a marriage. One of the main blessings that can
come from marriage is the gift of children. A marriage helps in procreation and the propagation
of life. God had instructed man to procreate and fill the earth. However, while children are gifts
that are bestowed upon parents by God, they are also a task. One of the problems that
contemporary marriages experience is parenting. Many people are not willing to take up the task
of parenting seriously. This creates a problem and disagreements that weaken marriages. The
text continues to explore the importance of conjugal fidelity. Conjugal fidelity is characterized
by God’s original intention of one man and one woman. While this was relaxed, it was
subsequently restored by Christ. Marriage should be characterized by purity in the relationship
between husband and wife. The issue of conjugal fidelity has been a problem in modern

People are willing to dissolve their marriages when they experience problems instead of solving
the problems and preserving the marriage.

given with a logical buildup of ideas being embraced. However, it fails to emphasize factors such
as communication. Communication is the foundation of any marriage. If people fail to
communicate, interpersonal problems develop, and this eventually results in the dissolution of
the marriage. People must therefore be committed to ironing out their differences in an amicable
manner. Conflicts are bound to arise in marriage due to tod differing points of view. However,
the ability of the marriage to overcome the conflicts is built on communication or the lack of it.
Without communication, issues such as finances can tear a marriage down.
