My pediatric clinical rotation sessions have been very impactful. I have learned many
lessons, specifically through collaboration. I have noted that collaboration leads to improved
patient outcomes. When I work in collaboration with other practitioners, I have minimal to zero
medical errors. Consequently, patients are satisfied with the service provided, and I am able to
achieve better patient outcomes. Kaiser et al. (2018) hold that collaboration among professionals
leads to improved patient outcomes as hospital length of stay is reduced, there is a decline in
mortality rates, and the overall patient satisfaction is high. I encountered this firsthand during my
clinical rotation. Collaboration has been yielding better patient outcomes and increased
efficiency among us.
However, I have observed that collaboration is not easily achieved in the workplace due
to certain barriers. First, there lacks a holding environment where implementation and
monitoring are successfully done. Due to this, there has been confusion due to a lack of clarity
on how to work jointly. According to Widmark et al. (2011), a holding environment is key in
helping professionals develop collaboration. Also, when working together, some professionals
may tend to shift responsibility as there no conditions clearly showing goals and tasks to be
performed by individual members. I have observed that some tasks are neglected, and some
issues are left unattended as everyone expects the other to do the task.
Overall, I believe that collaboration is effective in the provision of quality healthcare. If
properly implemented, it ensures that the service provides perform different yet complementary
roles. As such, everyone brings in their expertise to the table, and this leads to the provision of

high-quality care. Through my experience in the pediatric clinical rotation, collaboration has far-
reaching benefits and helps in the achievement of improved patient outcomes.
