COMM101 _Narrative Speech

I remember the day; it was on 19 th June 2020. 2020 was a different year for everyone because of
the COVID-19 pandemic. I spent most of my time at home; there was little movement. A close
friend was expecting her first child. She used to go on evening walks because it helped her
exercise. On this day, I was in the house watching a movie when she called me to accompany her
on her routine evening walk. I met her in the afternoon at around 3 PM, and we left for the walk.
That day, we took the route to the hospital where she used to go for her antenatal clinic visits,
although we had no intention of going there. She started complaining of discomfort just after we
had passed the hospital; this was normal in pregnancy, but she said it was somehow different that
day. We proceeded on the walk and found an excellent place to rest and recover to walk back. A
while later, she complained again, and we decided that since the hospital was on the way back,
we should check with the doctors to confirm that everything was okay. She did not expect
anything since it was three weeks before her expected delivery date. However, things changed
when we got there; it turned out that the discomfort was the beginning of her labour. So I left the
hospital, went to her home and picked her maternity bag; she always kept it packed in case of
something like this. When I returned to the hospital, she was already in labour, and I could not
see her. A few minutes past 2 a.m. on 20 th June 2020, she was the mother of a handsome baby
boy, and I became the baby’s godmother. I saw her early the next day, and it was beautiful.
