Coursework Lessons Learnt

The task that I will need to perform in my future career is to conduct organizational
change. I believe that I may be required to perform such a task because organizational change is
inevitable. Change in external environment such as introduction of new technologies or laws
may force organizations to change accordingly.
In performance of the task of spearheading change in an organization there are a lot of
valuable lessons that I have learnt in this course. The main one is his to successfully formulate
and introduce change in public organizations. In particular, I have learnt that no matter how good
and potentially helpful a given set of changes to an organization may be, they may never achieve
the desired effect if they are not implemented well.
I have learnt from the coursework the need to involve all stakeholders in an organization
in the formulation and execution of change. In particular, I have learnt the importance of seeking
employee buy-in if the proposed changes are to be successful. Without such buy-in, the changes
may result in unnecessary stress, poor performance, and reduced effectiveness of employees.
Thus, rather than achieving the desired goal, poorly implemented changes may result in serious
negative consequences for the organization implementing them.
I also learnt to take an approach that works for the organization that you are dealing with.
Public organizations, for instance, have unique characteristics that make the manner of change
introduction and implementation in them different from private organizations. Private
organizations, for instance, have less bureaucracy, are less formal, and have fewer stakeholders
than public organizations. The process of formulating and implementing change in them is,
therefore, less complicated than in public organizations.

In conclusion, I have gained a lot of knowledge that is important in my current career.
Much of the knowledge that I have gained will also come in handy in my future tasks as well.
