Decline of Rome

Numerous factors caused the decline of the Rome empire. First, the invasions by
Barbarian tribes were one of the causes of the decline of Rome. It is vital to acknowledge that
Rome had scrambled with Germanic people for eras, and by around the 300s, barbarian tribes
invaded their borders. With such encroachment, the Romans organized an uprising against the
Barbarian tribes, although they failed, and thus Rome was overtaken by its enemies (Andrews).
The Roman Empire faced many threats over time, and it at one point, the Germanic leader
organized a revolt that resulted in the Roman Emperor Romulus Augustulus being removed from
power.
The other reason that led to the decline of Rome was the rise of the Christianity religion.
It is vital to acknowledge that Christianity was permitted in 313, and it later became the official
religion of the country in around 380. As much as Christianity terminated suffering for human
beings as slaves, it may have also eroded the traditional way of life of the Romans. With
Christianity, popes and other Church officials became increasingly involved in political affairs,
which made governance difficult (OER Boundless World History). Additionally, Christianity
changed the focus and mainly concentrated on the welfare of individuals, which is one of the
reasons it may have resulted in the fall of Rome.
Additionally, the collapse of Rome can be attributed to economic problems. Even though
Rome was under constant attack from its enemies, it still strived to emerge stronger from such

wars. The only problem that made Rome weaker was its financial crisis due to increased
expenditure in the military sector. Also, the rich individuals in Rome left the country to avoid
taxation, which was a major source of revenue for the government (The Western Tradition, 26
mins). The war also made Rome weak because it encountered labor deficits as its supply of
enslaved people kept declining.
