Description of a Situation Where I Did not Succeed in Reaching an Academic Goal

One goal I failed to achieve in the past is the submission of assignments on time. At
one point, I had a class assignment due on Wednesday. However, I was unable to
complete the assignment on time and was only able to finish the assignment on Sunday. The
instructor penalized me, and even though I had done a good job and had put in a lot of effort to
complete the assignment, I was only able to score a C. The grade had an impact on my overall
performance in the course. I felt bad because I had achieved perfect scores in the previous
assignments. One thing that I learned is that one mistake can mess you up and prevent you from
achieving the goals that you have set.
Reasons Why I Was Unsuccessful
I believe I was unsuccessful because I was unable to come up with a workable plan. I did
not set a reminder that would remind me when the assignment was due. I failed to set realistic
deadlines, and the end result was that I missed the deadline. I failed to come up with an action
plan that would help me achieve the goals set.
What I could have Done Differently
I should have come up with an action plan that would have ensured that I complete the
assignments on time. In addition, I should have set artificial deadlines that would have ensured
that the assignment was complete before the actual due date. I should have set aside enough time
to complete the assignment and avoid the late penalties.
Value of Paying Attention to each Phase

Planning allows one to think through before undertaking the task at hand. Through
planning, one is able to understand the task completely, and this helps them to succeed. Planning
enables one to anticipate problems and take deliberate steps to be better equipped to handle the
problems. On the other hand, the performing phase enables one to undertake a task to the best of
their ability (Johnston, 2018). Learning enables one to look back at the steps and missteps that
they undertook. In so doing, one is able to determine gaps and improve on the weaknesses
identified. The phases enable one to complete the tasks successfully and also to be better
equipped to face challenges in the future.
