- The statement that best describes the sample is an uneven distribution. Some of the
values are much higher than others and cannot be placed on a Linkert scale.
- The number of individuals within the population is the appropriate statement to describe
the unit of analysis.
- The percent of the population that lives below the poverty line is the independent
variable: whether a state has the death penalty is the dependent variable: the violent crime
rate (per 100,000) is an independent variable; the region of the country is a dependent
variable.
Does poverty influence violent crime among US states?
- The independent variable is the percentage of population living below the poverty line;
the dependent variable is the violent crime rate among US states.
- The appropriate univariate statistics that I will use to describe my independent variable is
percentage distribution. The appropriate univariate statistics that I will use to analyze my
dependent variable is the median.
- The appropriate bivariate analytic technique to examine the association among the
percent living below the poverty line and the violent crime rate (per 100,000) is Simple
Linear Regression analysis.
- Describe the results of the univariate analysis of the independent variable in 1-2
sentences:
The results of the univariate analysis indicated that 15.35% of the US states population
are living below the poverty line.
- Describe the results of the univariate analysis of the dependent variable in 1-2 sentences:
3
The results of the univariate analysis of the dependent variable indicate that the median
crime rate in the US stats stands at 15,744.
- Describe the results of the bivariate analysis using complete sentences:
The results of the bivariate analysis indicate the presence of a linear relationship between
poverty and violent crime among US states. Therefore, the percentage of the population
living below the poverty line positively influence the crime rate among US states.

Does having the death penalty influence violent crime among US states?
- The independent variable is the death penalty; the dependent variable is the crime rate.
- The appropriate univariate statistics that I will use to describe my independent variable is the
“if” analysis. The appropriate univariate statistics that I will use to analyze my dependent
variable are Max.
- The appropriate bivariate analytic technique to examine the association between the

legalization of the death penalty and the violent crime rate (per 100,000) is Multiple Linear
Regression
- Describe the results of the univariate analysis of the independent variable in 1-2 sentences
The outcomes of the univariate analysis for the independent variable indicates that Yes = 1 and
No = 0. The majority of the states agree that the death penalty affects the crime rate.
- Describe the results of the univariate analysis of the dependent variable in 1-2 sentences
The results of the univariate analysis of the dependent variable indicate that the highest crime
rate stands at 153,709, and they agree that the death penalty is a contributing factor.
- Describe the results of the bivariate analysis using complete sentences:
The results of the multiple linear regression analysis depict that there is a high crime rate among
the states where the death penalty had been enforced.

Are there specific areas of the country (i.e., region) where the death penalty is more
common?
- The independent variable is the region; the dependent variable is the death penalty.
- The appropriate univariate statistics that I will use to describe my independent variable is
dispersion. The appropriate univariate statistics that I will use to analyze my dependent variable
is central frequency tendencies.
- The appropriate bivariate analytic technique to examine the association among the region of
the country and the legalization of the death penalty is bivariate bar graphs
- Describe the results of the univariate analysis of the independent variable in 1-2 sentences
The outcomes indicate the dispersion is more to the regions that are in the west
- Describe the results of the univariate analysis of the dependent variable in 1-2 sentences
The results indicate that most of the states are in support of the legalization of the death penalty.
- Describe the results of the bivariate analysis using complete sentences:
The result of the bivariate analysis indicates that most of the regions in the south are in support
of death penalty legalization than those in the northern regions.

Does the region of the country influence violent crime?
- The independent variable is the region of the country; the dependent variable is violent
crime.
- The appropriate bivariate analytic technique to examine the association among the violent
crime rate and region of the country is a bar chart
- Describe the results of the bivariate analysis using complete sentences:
The outcomes depict that the crime rate is much higher in the North region, influencing
outcomes.

Does the region of the country influence poverty among US states?
- The independent variable is region; the dependent variable is poverty among US states.
- The appropriate bivariate analytic technique to examine the association among the region of
the country and the percent of the population living below the poverty line is a bar graph
- Describe the results of the bivariate analysis using complete sentences
The outcomes of the bivariate analysis depict the presence of high poverty among US states in

Essay (2 pts): Please summarize your results below. Make sure to answer the research
questions. Did you find a relationship between the violent crime rate and the poverty rate?
The violent crime rate and the legalization of the death penalty? Was the direction of
association among region of the country and the violent crime rate similar to the variation
in the poverty rate and the death penalty across region of the country? What do your
results tell you about how these factors influence the violent crime rate?
` In conclusion, there is a relationship between violent crime rate and poverty rate. A high
poverty rate has been depicted to contribute to the crime rate. Also, there is a positive connection
between the crime rate and the legalization, where violent crime rate have been seen to be high in
regions where there is legalization. The southern region influences the violent crime rate than the
others, and it is equally attributed to the poverty rate increases in the US. More so, the death
penalty legalization in the south has been positively influenced the violent crime rate. In general,
all the factors contribute to the crime rate, and there is a close connection between poverty, death
legalization, region and crime rate in the US.
