To start, you canA critical examination of the dynamics of gender relations in the African-American
struggle to achieve freedom indicates that it entails numerous activities. In contemporary society,
there has been a shift in the family structure of African-Americans. Past activities such as slavery
helped shape the cultural practices and functions of Black families. It is vital to acknowledge that
Black families became more bonded together and shared responsibilities among all family
members regardless of gender. The roles of women among African-Americans were diverse
because they participated in economic and social activities in the community (Jardine &
Dallalfar, 2012). There is a marked difference in women’s and men’s roles in the past and present
because both men and women can engage in any task.
Additionally, there have been numerous civil rights movements in the African-American
community over the past years to abolish all forms of discrimination. It is vital to acknowledge
that Black women have been actively involved in the civil rights movement to achieve gender
equality (Ling & Monteith, 2014). Notably, women have been discriminated against in families,
and this was evident with the fact that males were given preference to go to school and engage in
economic activities as opposed to females. Today, women are activists for gender equality in all
spheres of life, including the workplace.
Also, the need to be heard has helped change the systems that existed in the past among
African-Americans. In the past, the views of women were hardly heard by men, and this was a
clear indication of discrimination. Currently, women have the same say as men in the workplace
and at home because the issue of gender equality has been taken seriously by governments
(Morgan & Hinojosa, 2018). Also, women have proven to be influential just like men, and thus
their views must be taken seriously.
