E-Government Service Analysis

Electronic government (e-government) involves the application of information
technology (IT) in the delivery of various government services. Governments and other
public agencies are increasingly rolling out e-government services in order to improve
efficiency and convenience and support equity, democracy, and transparency. One of the e-
government services that I have enjoyed using is the e-filing service.
Electronic filing or e-filing is a service that is provided through the USA.gov
government website. The service provides a lot of information to guide one when filing
federal, state, and local government taxes as well as small business taxes. When using the
service, one is walked through the whole process step by step as if they are being helped by
an experienced tax professional.
Partly because of the help that one gets when using e-filing, the tool allows for faster
filing of tax returns. As long as you have all the required forms with you, you can finish the
whole tax filing process in a sitting. The tool also helps to increase the accuracy of the
information that one provides during the filing process. For instance, it can recognize
arithmetic errors and alert one so that they make the necessary changes. Equally important,
using the tool helps one to get their refunds within a shorter time.
Given the many benefits of the e-filing service, I found it to be one of the most helpful
e-government services. My only worry was the safety of the data that I was providing. Even
though USA.gov has extremely robust data security features, I was still fearful that some
third part entity may get access to the data and use it inappropriately. Except for data privacy
concerns, I believe that the tool is a very useful and convenient one.
