Summary of The Climate Change Consensus Extends Beyond Climate Change Scientists

Passive Voice

Whether climate change scientists and non-climate change and non-climate change
scientists have different views regarding the existence of climate change and the role of human
actions in the change was looked at by authors of the paper titled The Climate Change Consensus
Extends Beyond Climate Change Scientists. The study was prompted by arguments that non-
climate change scientists are mostly skeptical about anthropogenic climate change and that the
disbelief by around half of the public of the consensus among climate change scientists that
climate change is real and anthropogenic was contributed by the wide coverage of these views by
the media. It was found by the study that this is not the case. It was revealed in the study’s
findings that non-climate change scientists were in overwhelming agreement with their climate
change counterparts that climate is changing and that contributing to the change are human
actions.

Review of the two voices

The summarized article is an argumentative one. Its argument is that both climate change
scientists and non-climate change scientists overwhelmingly believe in the reality of
anthropogenic climate change. The authors back up this view with facts and figures obtained
through their survey. An analysis of a summary of the articles using passive and active voices
shows that active voice presents the arguments in a more concise manner. As a result, the
arguments are not only clearer when using active voice but they are also need fewer words to
express them.
