Healthcare institutions face challenges while providing healthcare services to patients.
Patient and staff safety is the main goal for healthcare institutions, although it has been a
major challenge. According to Maria (2017), inadequate planning and understaffing can
result in poor quality care. Most institutions are still struggling to balance the number of
professional nurses with the number of patients. Safety is very important in health units. To
achieve the goal of every individual is safe, institutions should; increase the number of
nurses, make good use of PPEs, and provide proper staff training.
Health institutions should have enough staff or nurses. More caregivers or staff will be
able to handle a small number of patients without a lot of pressure, which will help in the
accuracy of their work. Institutions with more nurses help prevent fatigue since they have
time for rest, and this will improve their productivity. More staff will also attend to patients
more frequently, which can lead to better results and patient safety.
Proper use of protective gear (PPEs) example, gloves, masks, goggles, hand sanitizer,
and head covers, will help improve patient and staff safety. Use of PPEs will help reduce the

spread of infections. While handling patients, nurses should use disposable gloves, masks,
and syringes and should sanitize the surfaces. After use, they should ensure proper disposal of
the used PPEs. PPEs act like a barrier between staff, patients, and infections.
Institutions should train their staff. Qualified staff in a health institution is important
because there are fewer chances of poor services. Institutions should train the staff on how to
use equipment, handle emergencies, and communicate with patients, which will improve
patient safety. Staff with knowledge of how to administer drugs to patients, handle equipment
such as syringes, carry out surgery procedures, and dispose of PPEs will improve the safety
of patients and other staff.
Good health is very important to every individual. Patients and staff safety should be
the number one consideration by all health centers. Health institutions should educate their
staff on how to be safe at work and ensure that the patient is safe. Also, institutions should
allocate more budget to employ more staff and buy enough PPE s. Institutions with more staff
have high chances of increased safety than those with less. Purchasing more PPEs will help
increase safety because staff will have enough to use without recycling. And this will help
prevent the spread of infectious viruses.
