How E-Business has Changed the Traditional Buying Model

People’s lifestyles have been altered due to scientific and technological advancements.
People’s communication styles have evolved significantly within the past two decades, and
businesses are no exception (Leimstoll et al., 2018). Integrating computer systems into company
activities was originally done to make data more manageable. Today, business transactions such
as sales and purchases are done online through computer systems. Traditionally, buying required
consumers to “physically” visit brick-and-mortar stores to purchase items, gather information
about their respective products, or window-shop. These practices have significantly been altered
by introducing e-commerce platforms like business-to-business, business-to-consumer, or other
models. Conventionally, the item in the store is examined physically before being purchased. But
now, to complete a business transaction, a buyer has to look online for product features,
consumer reviews, and other important elements that may help raise awareness of the product to
be bought.
The E-business model also modifies the return guarantee service for online transactions,
allowing customers to buy products entirely based on brand qualities and values (Leimstoll et al.,
2018). In the traditional purchasing procedure, this issue is largely overlooked. Most importantly,
the e-business model has implemented procedures that make acquiring things easier. This entails
lower communication and transportation costs and the time it takes for consumers to visit stores.
Typically, all a consumer needs is an internet-enabled computer or smartphone to view what
retailers like Walmart or marketplaces like Amazon offer and make a purchase order. Products
will be delivered within minutes or hours to their doorsteps. The convenience of comparing
prices quickly, daily shopping, ordering, and product delivery have all been enhanced by the e-
business model (Leimstoll et al., 2018).
