The above materials are freely available online. They discuss the topic of teen pregnancy
in detail. They explain the impact that sex education has on teen pregnancy. For instance, Carter
(2012) states that quipping teenagers with comprehensive sex education is more effective at
preventing teenage pregnancies as opposed to just telling them to abstain. Teen pregnancies have
negative effects on both the mother and the child. Kappler 2015 explains that a teen mother is
highly likely to have a child with low birth weights, and this increases the child’s risk of dying.
Pregnancy at a young age can be unhealthy for the mother. The article gives details of how early
pregnancy affects a young girl, both emotionally, psychologically, physically, and even
financially. It is a good read for anyone who could be contemplating getting pregnant as a
teenager. Further, Evans et al. (2014) explain some of the factors involved in teen pregnancy and
some of the effective strategies to decrease the rates.

I chose the topic because it is a consequence of a lack of information. Most teens get
pregnant because they did not have the right information. Thus, by letting the materials online, it
becomes easy to provide teen pregnancy. Secondly, I wanted to demystify the point that teen
pregnancies can only be controlled through abstinence. While abstinence is good, teenagers
should be equipped with adequate information and left to choose from available options. The
materials provided above are effective to anyone between the age of ten to nineteen. Studies
show that teenage pregnancies affect girls 10-19 years of age. The articles provided above can
easily be retrieved online and thus accessible to anyone interested in learning more about the
topic. Other than the articles provided, there are webinars on teen pregnancy provided by
different organizations. Young people can benefit greatly from such platforms.
