LITERATURE-BASED TOPIC 2

Literature-Based Topic

My area of focus is literature, specifically elementary focus. The title will be “Text
Analysis.” The topic is associated with Common Core State Standards. English and Language
Arts (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.2). Basically, it will entail identification of main themes
or the central ideas that an author has expressed in a text. Then the development of the themes
will be analyzed with specific emphasis being on the theme’s interaction with other themes and
how it facilitates the development of the plot. Also, the focus will be on how the themes build on
each other to produce a complex account of the text. While studying “Text Analysis,” learners
will be able to provide an objective summary of the text under study.
The standard requires that students identify themes in a text, analyze how the author of
the text builds the plot by developing the themes, and then summarizes the text. Learners will be
required to look for motifs while reading the text. Motifs will help hem identify the main or
central idea presented in a text. Also, they need to track the reaction of characters to the motif or
repeated idea. Specifically, learners will decisions made ad conflicts arising because of repeated
ideas. Then, learners will have mastered this standard if they can identify the author’s message in
the text by looking at the outcomes of the plot and choices made by characters within the text.
The aim of the standard is to measure the learner’s ability to decode the message in a text and
understand the author’s main message. Overall, the student must possess foundational reading
skills, and be able to read and comprehend a text on their own so that analysis can be easier.
