To start, you canThe cold war was a period of tension between the socialist and capitalist nations. I found
this topic quite interesting given the diverse circle that I could collect information from. I
decided to collect from all of them and compare their lives during the cold war. The first to give
their account of the cold war was my parents, who shared their childhood and adulthood during
the cold war. From their perspective, growing up at the time was very typical and had little effect
on their childhood. However, in their adult phase, the effects of the cold war and its worries
caught up with them. There was fear of nuclear warfare, which kept everyone on high alert in
case this occurred.
In addition, there was a feeling of distrust among the people due to the false accusations.
This led to disintegration among the people as one could quickly get falsely accused. From my
elder siblings, who partially had their childhood during the period, there was a slight change as
they were now made aware of the dangers of nuclear warfare. There was also a slight change in
the education system. The entertainment also improved with movies portraying nuclear attacks,
and their aftermath became popular. I also had a chance to speak to a family friend who spent
most of their childhood in the soviet union, from their account, their lives were very different.
There was a more strict approach, and control got enforced to ensure that the people only heard
or learned what the government programmed. Their education system was also highly controlled.
This I found very interesting; from the three perspectives, it is pretty clear that the cold war
brought about many changes, with some still in effect to date (Shulman, 2019).
