I am writing this to respond to information that you sought regarding various aspects of
operations management. Operations management includes business practices and processes that
aim to create a highly efficient organization (Karlsson, 2003). Operations management revolves
around the conversion of raw materials and labor into final products. In the automobile
manufacturing industry, operations management is concerned with the streamlining of
production. It includes the procurement of raw materials, management of assembly lines, and
coordination and planning of different production lines in the organization.
Operations management plays various roles in an organization. In the automobile
industry, operations management aid in planning. Operations managers seek to ensure that they
forecast and plan to ensure that they optimize the production process. Operations management
also help in controlling the costs (Karlsson, 2003). Through proper planning, managers are able
to control the costs and, in so doing, aid in enhancing profitability. The automobile industry is
overly competitive. The implication is that players must continuously ensure that they make
continuous improvements to their products and production processes. Operations management
helps ensure that there is continuous improvement. In addition, through effective operations
management, the quality of products manufactured can be improved.

The application of technology in operations management has ensured that firms are able
to cut costs and standardize operations. In the automobile industry, the application of technology
makes the production process easy and ensures that different production plants are able to
standardize operations (Karlsson, 2003). Technology has also helped companies in the
automobile industry create value for consumers. Planning and forecasting have been made easier
through the use of technology.
