Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is one of the largest non-profit
organizations in the United States and Canada. Even though it is currently based in Texas,
USA, the organization was founded in Calfornia in 1980. Its founder, Candace Lighter,
started the organization after a drunk driver killed her thirteen-year old daughter (MADD,
2020). Since its founding close to forty years ago, the organization has grown to become one
of the best known and most visible non-governmental organizations in both the USA and
Canada.

Mission of MADD

According to MADD’s website, the mission of the organization is to end drunk
driving in USA and Canada, combat drugged driving, prevent underage drinking, and support
victims of drunk and drugged driving (MADD, 2020). The problem of drunk driving is
particularly serious in the United States as it is the leading cause of deaths and injuries on
American roadways.

Component of MADD to Include in Social Media Campaign
A component of MADD to include in social media campaign is its efforts to combat
underage drinking. Since teenagers are among the most active users of social media
platforms, a social media campaign against underage drinking is likely to succeed. The
campaign will seek to increase awareness among teenagers and adults alike of the problem of
underage drinking and its short-term and long-term consequences.
Apart from spreading awareness, the campaign may also include efforts to provide the
teenagers with adequate knowledge and skills to take preventive measures against underage
drinking. Expected benefits of the campaign include reduction in excessive drinking and

reduction of underage drinking. In addition, the campaign is likely to lead to increased
awareness and understanding of the problem of underage drinking in both American and
Canadian societies.
