To start, you canNew Deal was a series of programs that were initiated by President Franklin Roosevelt
during the Great Depression. These programs aimed to restore the American economy and to
provide jobs and relief to the suffering populations. The New Deal programs included the CCC,
TVA, and WPA among others. The programs were known as the 3 R’s as Roosevelt believed
through Relief, recovery, and Reform they could manage to stabilize the economy. New Deal
programs impacted a permanent change in the United States federal government through
expanding its role in the economy.
The Work Progress Administration (WPA) program provided significant help to African
Americans. The project provided jobs for needy men, women, and youths, especially in
construction firms. Besides, it created employment opportunities for artists and musicians of
African origin. The Farm Security Administration (FSA) program also supported workers,
immigrants, and African Americans. Such was achieved through reclaiming the land through soil
conservation before resettling the farmers in that land for better productivity. Also, it provided
loans and emergency relief to help farmers improve their production activities (Schearer, 2021).
The project constructed experimental rural communities and GreenBelt Towns for migrant
farmworkers.
The New Deal played a significant role in bringing the end of the Great Depression. The
programs created employment opportunities for the diverse populations in America through
initiating public projects across the country. The reforms formulated by the New Deal such as
encouraging the beginning of the labor movement enhanced the increase of wages as well as
sustained the American’s purchasing power (Schearer, 2021). The establishment of federal
3
regulations and social security ensured that there would be no repeat of the Great Depression
after 1930. The impact of the Social Security Act is still felt to date especially because it
provides income for the children, poor families, and the elderly.
