I could not comprehend a thing. Today, I know that the problem was that I was sitting in a poorly
ventilated room. The quality of air in a room affects my comprehension levels. Willis &
Mitchele (2014) note that positive environments enhance learning. A well-ventilated room is a
positive environment in my case, and this has proved to foster my learning and comprehension
abilities (Willis & Mitchell, 2014).
A well-ventilated room ensures that I am in a good mental state to take in new material
and retain it. Increased airflow into a room creates a better and more comfortable environment
for learning to take place. Brain cells need oxygen for their activity when the air supply in a
room is limited; then, these cells are likely to be affected. Their activity levels are affected as
well, and this affects learners’ concentration and alertness. On the other hand, a sufficient flow of
air is not a room that boosts the activity of the brain cells as they get an adequate supply of
oxygen. Consequently, learners’ attention is enhanced and their learning abilities improved. This
explains why well-ventilated classrooms, which are spacious enough, are the most conducive and
optimal learning environments for students.
