The first step taken to perform literature search was by searching relevant academic
databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar for keywords related to the topic. These
databases store vital information that was impactful in this research. This was evident as they
were able to concisely provided valuable and credible evidence. Notably, the identified keywords
in the research included words such as “overnight hospital stays” and “parental anxiety”.
Secondly, the literature search demanded narrowing down the search by adding more specific
terms such as “hospitalized child” or “limited day visits”. Thereafter, it was essential that filters
such as date range, language, and article type are utilized to refine the search results. This step
would aid me by reading through the abstracts and looking for key phrases and ideas that are
related to the topic. Finally, after reading enough articles, it becomes easy to form an opinion on
the overall research. This would instigate synthesis of the literature to draw conclusions about
how the remaining overnight with the hospitalized child compared with limited day visits affect
parental level of anxiety.
